Meridia

Meridia (sibutramine) is a highly efficient prescription medicine that can be used for the treatment of obesity in patients that did not respond to other treatment methods. It is not efficient if used alone – you are supposed to combine Meridia with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Please make sure you notify your health care provider of any diseases you have or have ever been diagnosed with, such as depression, heart disease, seizures, high blood pressure, glaucoma, a history of heart attack, liver or kidney disease, a history of a stroke, or a bleeding disorder, as they can be very important in establishing the safety of the treatment in your particular case. Some mild and more serious side effects are possible when you take this medicine regularly. Since the reactions of different people can be quite individual, you need to know only the most commonly reported side effects to be able to determine whether there is any reason to get concerned. The following mild side effects are not supposed to be reported to your health care provider unless they continue for a long time and interfere with your everyday life: stuffy nose, headache, hunger, mild skin rash, constipation, and loss of appetite. More serious side effects that you will need to report to your doctor as soon as possible can include seizure, weakness, severe headache, high fever, chest pain, pounding heartbeats, high blood pressure, sweating, agitation, easy bruising, blurred vision, confusion, joint pain, and restlessness, although some other ones are also possible. Make sure you do not take part in any activities that require alertness and concentration, as this medicine can sometimes impair your thinking. Consuming alcohol can worsen some of the side effects of Meridia, so it’s recommended to abstain from drinking. An overdose of Meridia can be dangerous and the person who happened to take too much of it may display some of the following symptoms: headache, dizziness, and fast heart rate. Seek emergency medical assistance if you have taken too much of this medication. If you happened to miss a dose of Meridia (it is supposed to be taken once a day unless your health care provide recommended otherwise), make sure you take it as soon as you remembered. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, you can skip the one you missed and go back to taking Meridia as prescribed, trying not to miss any more doses.
